Progressing beyond a certain point in Terraria is made much easier by slaying the Eye of Cthulhu. This is the most well-rounded minion weapon in the game, with DPS comparable to that of endgame summons. Upon world creation, there is a 50*1/2 (50%) chance for either one to generate. Its attack pattern is interesting but rather disorienting to use, and its DPS doesn't quite make up for the inconvenience. The Crimson is an evil biome with a fleshy infection, red gore theme, in contrast to the dark purple wasteland theme of its counterpart, the Corruption. It also has a massive tag damage value of 20, which drastically increases the potency of UFOs. The Copper armor set, for example, reduces damage taken by 3, Iron armor reduces damage by 5, so the difference in damage reduction is only 2, which is barely noticeable. However, it only reaches optimal DPS if you can land the seed directly on a target, and that might not be possible during mid- to long-range battles like the Empress of Light (though it is still better than the Influx Waver for that fight). Note that Goblin Scouts only spawn in the outer thirds of the map and that Pinkies are fairly rare. If you were searching for a proper long-ranged DPS weapon, then keep searching. World size refers to the size of a Terraria world. Problem is that in order to reach their full potential, you need to take damage to activate Ballista Panic. As it is a rare creature, it can be detected by the Lifeform Analyzer. The Prismatic Lacewing will only spawn naturally between 7:30 PM and 12:00 AM, and only one can Terraria focuses extensively on using components found through excavation and spelunking to create new items, structures, and machines. If you encounter any water pockets, do not panic. This walkthrough merely aims to provide a logical order of progression through Terrarias many different biomes, generally in order of increasing difficulty. Your spawning location will often be close to or sometimes even in the Snow biome. The Crimson spreads, meaning it slowly converts adjacent tiles to their Crimson variants. Each seed hits like a spammable shotgun blast with semi-homing properties that make it good even against scattered enemies, and it can often kill frail enemies in one shot. It is the first layer below the surface. The Eye of Cthulhu is a pre-Hardmode boss. Because of set bonuses, it is wise to try and complete an armor set rather than mixing and matching different pieces. Two to three rows of platforms will be enough space to move around. We hope we can add to your enjoyment of this colorful, creative, and ambitious game. True, but if you use true night's edge's blade, it's much better. Overall, I'd rate this as the most useful sentry outside the Old One's Army, and a decent one for the Old One's Army itself (though being unable to reposition kind of hurts). The Wooden Boomerang is useful if you master how to use it, and can be further upgraded into the more powerful Enchanted Boomerang by combining it with a Fallen Star (note that this crafting recipe is only available on the Desktop version, Console version, and Mobile version). Should the boss be summoned by accident, the only way to evade is by dying. Don't forget that water flows downhill, so it's possible to drain flooded areas to get the goodies inside. It is not necessary, however, to build the entire base right away. The tools, weapons, and armor obtained via Crimson material generally have minor advantages over those obtained via Corruption materials; however, Corruption tools are slightly faster. So bossing is a possibility for Cursed Flames, though it probably isn't your most efficient option. Silver Broadsword or better, Spear, Rally. Though it is somewhat difficult to obtain, the Spirit Flame is possibly the best magic weapon to use against the flying bosses like the Twins, Skeletron Prime, and Queen Slime thanks to its homing abilities and high damage value relative to its modest mana consumption. Regardless of when or what the player builds, it is recommended to build houses for the Guide, Merchant and Nurse, craft a Campfire, and an area for storage and crafting before progressing. Note that fishing in the Corruption can be rather dangerous since the biome tends to spawn World Feeders. You may note that there are bigger, more open spaces than in the Caverns. This weapon benefits greatly from Ichor, but there's no way to inflict the debuff in singleplayer without releasing the Piranha Gun, so you decide whether that's worth it for you. Its annoying long arms are the easiest to target and should be taken care of before going for the head which is the only thing that actually needs to be destroyed to defeat it. The Ecto Mist in a graveyard is also needed to forge a Gravedigger's Shovel which can speed up digging immensely. Of course, these two yoyos have the downside of being extremely rare, and I wouldn't recommend farming for them considering that you can obtain Yelets from the Jungle fairly easily. On older versions you cannot mine them, until you obtain a pickaxe stronger than gold or platinum (and you can't use bombs on them). Zombies also spawn, which will follow a basic pattern of slowly walking towards the player in hordes. Shadow Chests found here can only be opened with the Shadow Key, found in the Dungeon. It also invalidates the KO Cannon's entire existence. As a bonus, its ammo is cheaper than Musket Balls, which is a good thing since you'll need lots of it. And if you want to use it for parrying, it's outclassed by the Sergeant United Shield, which can deal the bonus damage from Striking Moment from a distance. (Which is a shame too, the weapon only gains any usability if you combine it with an Ichor debuff, and it still gets a rather subpar DPS anyways. Lantern Nights, which feature lanterns floating up into the sky in the background, will also occur the night after defeating a boss or event, increasing the player's Luck. Because of how Defense works, there isnt a huge benefit from upgrading from one armor set to the next. It also benefits more from the Ichor debuff since it deals more hits per second. It's actually a very competent melee weapon, and it's also useful on tanking builds who can use it to increase defense by a whopping 20 points while holding right-click. Cthulhu will burst into a pinata of useful items, dropping Corruption Seeds and Demonite Ore. More importantly, his death will trigger the appearance of the Dryad, a valuable NPC who sells the Purification Powder you will need to get at the Shadow Orbs hidden in The Corruption. Oceans are always found at the edge of the world, usually next to beaches containing Palm Trees and decorative seashells and starfish. Dont just start digging straight downat this stage in the game thats a good way to fall into trouble. Now craft a Wooden Sword and Wooden Hammer. It doesn't have much trouble hitting enemies that charge directly towards you or move slowly, but it has a lot of trouble hitting Moon Lord, and often misses targets at the edge of your screen. One can take all the time one needs to prepare for the battle. Open natural caves reveal mineral deposits far more efficiently than man made tunnels produced by the Pickaxe. Unfortunately, that doesn't change the fact that it is too gimmicky to use in most situations. If you cant find a suitable site, use your Pickaxe to flatten some earth. 3 / 5 can be used to craft a Mana Crystal, which increases the player's maximum mana by 20 upon each usage until the player reaches their maximum attainable base mana at 200. Stakes receive a small damage penalty when piercing through many enemies, but you'll barely notice because it kills things so fast anyways. The Tome of Infinite Wisdom is definitely not a weapon you'll be relying on for most situations. Sure it has the same mechanics as any other yoyo, but its base damage is so ridiculous that you probably won't even care that it can be used for wall cheesing. It's excellent underground where it can perform bankshots, and works very well against the Dungeon; it's a shame that the Dungeon is the only underground location you'll actually be spending time in at this point. It is very competent at dealing damage, but also very unsafe to use; even compared to other spears, its range is extremely short, which makes it difficult to attack enemies without getting hit in return. Cookies help us deliver our services. On their own, the mushrooms won't contribute much. Completely dominates both bosses and invasions, as long as you can land your shots. Many other weapons can offer nearly as much DPS from a much longer range. And with some clever placement, you can use them actively against slow targets like Ogres by deploying the mines in front so they activate right before being stepped on. Kind of plays like a ranged version of Shadowflame Knife. A raven that's returning to you moves exactly like an enemy that's trying to ram into you, so dodging enemies means you'll also dodge your own ravens, causing them to potentially end up in an infinite cycle of uselessness. You might also want to build a lake of Honey for. It's critical that you increase your max life, as it significantly boosts your survivability. The secondary attack is a very wide and powerful anti-ground crowd control option that can be used on uneven terrain, but with a ridiculous cost of 40 mana per cast, it basically can't be sustained outside of heavily crowded invasion events, where it can feed off mana stars with the Celestial Magnet. Defeating Plantera for the first time reduces the speed of the Crimson's spread by 50*1/2 (50%). Piercing mechanics hold the Frost Hydra back a little since it can miss entirely against targets that are under attack by another piercing weapon, and the Hydras can interfere with each other if they fire at the same target. The Dynamite is perfect with a large blast radius (Does not work in Desktop, Console, and Mobile as meteorite cannot be destroyed by explosive since patch 1.4.0.2). 7. The stage of Terraria between grabbing your first gear and fighting the Eye of Cthulhu is the most wide open section of the game. Talking to the Old Man at the Dungeon entrance and night time. Incredibly reliable minion against any type of enemy, including bosses. If a Crimson biome overlaps a Desert biome during world generation, Sand will be converted to Crimsand, but it will not spread until Hardmode. If you do fight Harpies, because of their attacks from distance and erratic flight pattern, it can be quite difficult to hit them, and its advisable to use a weapon with a long range and high velocity: the Space Gun (especially with Meteor armor) is perfect for this job, but any long-range weapon will do. This can be done using any hammer or explosives. Although Corruption might replace Crimson at world generation, it does not prevent Crimson from being artificially created in a Corruption world, and vice versa. It can handle basically any crowd control situation other than wave 15 of the Pumpkin Moon, where you might want to switch to a Chlorophyte Partisan or something. The other two firing modes are decent too, but they're cheap party tricks compared to the full beam. A decent sentry when fighting on flat terrain, and a substantial upgrade to the Queen Spider Staff. The Anchor should be moved down to F rank honestly. This handy little station allows you to smelt raw ore into Bars, which in turn serve as base components for an enormous number of Crafting recipes in conjunction with the Anvil. The Underground Jungle lies directly below the surface Jungle, beginning at variable depths, and extends to the Underworld. In order to use this weapon properly, you need to understand how it works; because it has very low base damage, effects that add a fixed amount of damage per hit provide a monstrous boost to its damage output. This page was last edited on 26 September 2022, at 17:03. Digging down through the Pyramid's sandstone walls will bring you to a chamber with a chest which may contain a Flying Carpet or Sandstorm in a Bottle, both very useful accessories, and you're guaranteed to gain a least a few gold coins from the chest, money sacks, and pots in the temple chamber. The first thing to do in Hardmode is to go to the natural Corruption/Crimson Biome and start smashing Altars. It is also usable for short-range wall cheesing, though the spear itself does not pierce through walls. These are mostly used as crafting materials for various potions. This does not include quest fish or the fish in Other fishing catches. The fish used for brewing potions (not those cooked for other food items), plus the Neon Tetra and Honeyfin, can also be used in pairs to craft a Seafood Dinner. In the top half, lakes of water are found, while in the bottom half, lava is found instead. The main problem with this weapon isn't its performance, but rather how difficult it is to get. They're easy to farm with a decent Broadsword or Boomerang. Ill re-evaluate it once I get back from work, but I dont expect it to be higher than B+, given that it cant help you when youre surrounded. Hellstone mining is quite time-consuming and is the main reason to spend time in it. Youre also on the lookout for Crystal Hearts. Into the Midgame Shadow Orbs Goblins and the Eater of Worlds. It travels through blocks, and it has two forms. Therefore, an aspiring Terrarian should begin their work with a series of reconnaissance missions, exploring the surface of the world above and the first two or three layers of depth below with one cautious eye on the Health bar. Dump this in the Shimmer pool. Its range is so short that it's difficult to avoid taking contact damage when using it, so I would recommend using it as a "get off me" option in situations where you're already taking contact damage anyways. Ultimately, you need a sentry-focused loadout for this weapon to be even close to decent, and there isn't even an incentive to use Apprentice armor with it because its set bonus doesn't improve this sentry's DPS. In the second stage, you fight the Brain directly as it tries to charge you. Many of the Queen Bee's drops may be better than what you already have. On the other hand, you can repel any number of fighter enemies simply by firing the projectile at your feet, so it will be very useful if you get it early on while exploring the Dungeon. Jagged, dark red rocky landscape with stone arches. We've prepared a more detailed guide to character creation, but the skinny is that your choices here are purely cosmetic. That wouldn't bump up the availability though since they have the same chance to drop, but it should still be noted in the tier list regardless. Zombies have a 2% chance of dropping the Shackle, one of the earliest available accessories. Before reaching this final stage, the player will have to go through several trials to prove their worth. It bypasses all barriers and hunts down enemies at every corner of your screen, and performs excellently with no investment other than a Bewitching Table and Summoning Potion. Compared to Life Drain, it offers better DPS, but it's slightly worse at everything else. It also has an incredibly low mana cost, so you'll almost never have to support it with mana potions or even Celestial Cuffs. Cave generation is also different: instead of deep shafts, it contains one big neuron-shaped cave that you can walk down more easily. When progressing through Terraria, many players can be confused about where they should go and what they should do next. Both of them will make getting around much easier and faster. A house in the Jungle should be made for the Witch Doctor, as he will sell Leaf Wings when he is in the biome at night. Wooden Sword, Spear, Any thrown weapon ( ). It'll hold the fort for a while until you can get something stronger, like a Spell Tome weapon. It also can't handle more than two enemies at a time. Aboveground, it is outclassed by Cursed Flames, and underground, it is outclassed by Crystal Storm. No one ever expects to obtain a Coin Gun, and many people don't have any firsthand experience with it, so few people actually know how good it is. There is also a guide to summon and defeat Event Bosses in Terraria, so be sure to check it out. The Iron Broadsword, for example, only costs 8 Iron Bars 24 iron ore which is about one to three ore veins. Chasms, Crimson Altars, and Crimson Hearts will only appear upon world generation, and will not spawn in a Crimson area that has formed through spreading. At this point you might be thinking something like "how can almost all the whips in the game be S tier?" You'll want a decent stock of Lesser Healing Potions, which you've likely obtained from Chests. Holding the Umbrella tool (which is also a large shortsword on the PC version, Console version, Mobile version, and tModLoader version) allow for very slow fall, easing cave exploration early on. You can also use the pillars you built as grapple points for your Grappling Hook, allowing you to jump and swing over the top of the Eye as he attacks. If you are lucky (a 9% chance per chest), youll find a Spear, which is one of the best starting weapons, especially against Zombies, which are the biggest threat at this point. It rapidly and effortlessly cuts through hordes of enemies of any size, immobilizing them in an unrelenting barrage of hits. Save it for bosses, and you'll find that it's super effective. It has higher theoretical DPS than the Possessed Hatchet, but in practice it will only reach those levels of DPS when attacking something at point-blank range. The cascades can often reflect off of precious metals hidden out of sight beneath the surface, or reveal the presence of hidden chambers. https://terraria.fandom.com/wiki/File:Music-Crimson.mp3, https://terraria.fandom.com/wiki/File:Music-Crimson_(Otherworldly).mp3, The tree in world selection (on the right: during Hardmode), Crimson can be created or spread artificially using, As of version 1.4 of the game, it is possible to create an artificial Corrupt biome in a Crimson world without the use of another world. Smashing your first orb or heart allows two events to occur in short order: 50% on breaking a Shadow Orb or Crimson Heart, Dynamite, Sticky Bombs, Gold or Platinum Pickaxe, buff potions. Then step outside of your house (being careful to close the door behind you) and find a likely place to begin a diagonal-downward shaft. Compared to the Spectre Staff, the Bat Scepter isn't as effective for crowd control, but thanks to being non-piercing, it will occasionally experience bursts of extremely high DPS when a massive clump of bats catches up to an enemy and collides with it all at once.
